Neptune just turned retrograde (4th July), Saturn is soon to retrograde (00:00 EST on 13th July) and Mercury very soon thereafter (18th July) will also go in apparent backwards motion. They’ve already noticeably been shifting and changing the winds of earthly learning as they slowed down before the pivot. The forward motion stalls, resistance and hesitation, turning-away and sinking downward. Looking into the sludge and slime of the cosmic void beneath our feet and in our hearts.
Jupiter with the Sun during this full moon on 10th July brings that blessing of grace, a reminder of the lessons of our teachers (Jupiter, Sagittarius) and friends (Gemini). As ruler of Punarvasu, where the Sun resides during the major peak of the lunar passage (where all of our physical and emotional experiences get filled with the nectar of feelings coating the channels of our bodily fluids), Jupiter’s expansive benevolence provides the Sun with an act of grace and kindness. In Vedic astrology this is Guru Purnima, the full moon relating to our teachers, parents and fathers, the wisdom guides.
In Punarvasu, the generosity of Jupiter supports the Sun’s light in breaking through the heaviness of the retrogrades, though Saturn’s negating gaze still extends to the benefic lord. With ruler Jupiter co-habiting the portion of the sky with the Sun (and not combusted), acts of grace emanate from a sense of restoration of well-being, through the lessons of all who have guided us, our teachers, friends, siblings and fathers. A highlight on the father, the divine faith, messages from god or spirit, communication with wise benefic friends. Messages from the ancestral teachers who point our way towards wholeness.
Jupiter also calls to the Moon through their mutual drishti, as well as through Jupiter’s rulership of Sagittarius. With the Moon in a Jupiter-sign, we can see the importance of our teachers, gurus, of dogma and belief, of the pathway towards morality, law, religion. Important pieces of wisdom settle into the mind. These memories are reminders and sign posts of where we should head to in our best interests. The Moon is in trine with Mars and Ketu in sidereal Leo, invigorating the day’s activities. In Purva Ashadha nakshatra, ruled by Venus, its pada corresponding to Scorpio navamsha, there can be a great deal of churning and transforming from powerful sacred teachings or revelations.
“Under Pūrvāṣāḍhā one seeks connections like water desiring to reach the ocean. It is a creative, nurturing and healing Nakshatra.” (Frawley)
The Sun is the tenant of Lord Mercury, who is slowing and will station RX on 18th July at 21° Cancer, Ashlesha nakshatra, lunar portion corresponding to an emotionally winding bending twisting manipulating way of thinking and relating. At that point Venus will be in a hard square with the nodes, causing discomfort and friction in diplomatic relations (particularly familial – Taurus), voice/throat, and finances. Not a great time, steady on in time. A strong current can displace us. Reorient yourself in space while the activities outside of you hum away.
